Partnership opens unparalleled rail access

Act Sustainably

Linfox and Pacific National have secured a 10-year national linehaul rail freight services agreement, building on a decade-long partnership.

The national agreement leverages Linfox’s supply chain capabilities and Pacific National’s formidable intermodal rail expertise to offer Australia’s most expansive freight rail service.

“Linfox customers will benefit from Pacific National’s scale, offering more service options, greater reliability and greater reach than any other rail provider in Australia,” said Linfox President Intermodal, Cameron Trewin.

“It’s particularly exciting for our cold chain offering, which now constitutes around 40 per cent of all Linfox rail movements, making it the number one containerised temperature-controlled freight service in Australia.

“Pacific National has significantly invested in rollingstock assets, including locomotives and high performance wagon sets enabling double-stacking of containerised freight.

“This investment and the increased number of services offers customers far greater value and reliability.”

“Pacific National’s operational performance, service frequency and network footprint are unparalleled and recognised by long-term customers like Linfox,” said Pacific National MD and CEO, Paul Scurrah.

“With a consistent track record of delivering an impressive operational footprint, a world class safety record and extensive rollingstock assets, Pacific National offers the most comprehensive intermodal rail service in the country,” he said.

More than just a trucking company

As Linfox decarbonises its transport operations, rail will play a critical role in supporting the reduction of emissions from carbon-based fuel.

According to The Australasian Railway Association, the rail industry is set to meet three-quarters of the growth in Australia’s national freight task to 2030.

“Rail-based intermodal freight systems are three times more fuel efficient than road transport, resulting in substantial decreases in greenhouse gas emissions,” said Cameron.

“As our rail services expand, adopting rail transportation offers Linfox customers a significant opportunity to strengthen their sustainability targets.”

Property strategy alignment

The partnership agreement also aligns with Linfox’s strategy to invest in strategically located railhead facilities across Australia.

Linfox is co-located with Pacific National in Kewdale in Perth, Acacia Ridge in Brisbane, and most recently at the new Linfox Adelaide Freight Terminal in Regency Park.

“We continue to explore opportunities to invest in property along Australia’s rail corridors to further enhance our Intermodal capabilities throughout Australia,” said Cameron.
